Our minimum opening balance for a Savings account is $5,000; the minimum for a CD account is $10,000.
Federal law limits the number of withdrawals and transfers from an Online Savings Account to 6 transfers or withdrawals on a statement cycle (of at least 4 weeks). For each additional debit exceeding the legal limit we may assess an excessive withdrawal transaction fee. Please refer to the Popular Bank Product Guide for Popular Direct Savings Accounts for more details.
There are multiple ways to make deposits to your Popular Direct savings account :
The email and text alerts service is free. However, standard mobile carrier charges and fees apply to any alerts sent by text message.
Savings account withdrawals are limited to six per calendar month. However, you are free to make unlimited deposits into your online account from your linked account.

All deposit products offered through Popular Direct will be opened through Popular Bank, an FDIC-member institution and a New York state chartered bank insured by the FDIC. Processing services are provided by Popular Bank. All deposits with Popular Bank are insured for the maximum amount allowed by law, and all balances on deposit with Popular Bank (whether directly or through Popular Direct) would be combined for purposes of determining FDIC coverage eligibility. Beginning January 1, 2013, all of a depositor's accounts at an insured depository institution, including all noninterest-bearing transaction accounts, will be insured by the FDIC up to the standard maximum deposit insurance amount ($250,000), for each deposit insurance ownership category. Log into Popular Direct Online Banking and select "External Transfers" in the "Pay and Transfer" tab on the top of the page. You will then be prompted to provide information about your External Account, which you must have withdrawal rights for. External Accounts may only be checking, savings or money market accounts and must be located in the United States with a valid ABA routing number.
You cannot change your External Account during the first 60 calendar days after opening your Popular Direct account. To change your External Account, you may call our Customer Care Center at 1-800-274-5696 after the 60 calendar day wait period to have your External Account deleted, at which point you may enroll a new account through Popular Direct Online Banking. Each time you change your External Account, you may not change it for 60 calendar days.
Enrolling in E-Statements is easy. Simply log on to populardirect.com and click on "Accounts." Then go to the "Online documents" option. Click "Submit" after reading and agreeing to the terms and conditions, and you're done. (It may take up to 30 days to stop receiving paper statements.) Watch our enrollment video for more details.
You can change your preferences at any time by clicking "Change your document delivery method."
You have access to up to five years of past statements, provided those past statements were delivered electronically. You will not have access to past paper statements. To view your electronic statement history, click "All statements."
Popular Direct Online and Mobile Banking services utilize best practices such as HTTPS, 128-bit SSL encryption, password access and application time-out, where applicable. In addition, no account information is stored on your computer or phone. In the event your device or log in credentials are lost or stolen, the service can be immediately disabled by calling us at 1-800-274-5696.
We do not charge a fee for these services, however your standard mobile carrier's data fees apply for mobile banking and text message fees apply for text alerts and text banking.
